The Monte Bernardi estate dates back to 1085 although the most recent owner (Michael Schmelzer and family) purchased it in 2003 and since then has been making superb Sangiovese-based wines from 40 yr old vineyards located in the hilly, southern-most region of Panzano, an area that has been acknowledged as one of the “Grand Crus” of Chianti Classico.

This is the newest wine from Monte Bernardi that sits under their very popular Retromarcia Chianti Classico. Mid-weight with concentrated fruit but without being heavy – definitely a ‘food wine’ (antipasti dishes, meat and/or pasta dishes). The property was certified biodynamic in 2004 and the vineyard producing grapes for the Sangio is currently undergoing organic certification. Enjoy from 2022 - 2028
