MARCHESI DI BAROLO "COSTE DI ROSE" DOCG 2017Marchesi di Barolo
Here are some paraphrased notes from Marchesi di Barolo about their award-winning wine (Decanter, 97 points Platinum Award)
Coste di Rose is a prestigious east-facing hill located in the municipality of Barolo. It is characterised by a very steep slope (more than 40% gradient) that fosters the perfect maturation of the Nebbiolo clusters which are extremely demanding in terms of light and heat.
The grapes are collected exclusively by hand and quickly taken to the cellar where they are destemmed and softly pressed to extract only the most noble and aromatic parts from the skins and the outer portion of the grape.
The wine initially ages for two years, partly in Slavonian oak barrels and partly in small, slightly toasted French oak barrels. The two parts are then blended in the traditional big oak barrels before being bottled. The Coste di Rose matures for 4 years after being harvested and reaches its peak condition between 4 and 20 years of age.
The wine has an intense bouquet with distinct traces of roses, liquorice, spices and aromatic herbs, especially wild mint. The taste is full, elegant, and full-bodied. The delicate colour of this wine and its structure make it a Barolo that is immediately pleasant, balanced and harmonious.
Food pairing: it is well-matched with typical dishes from Langhe: cured meats, eggs with truffles, traditional Langhe egg pasta, roasts, goat’s cheese and mildly seasoned cheeses. Serve at around 18° C (64° F)
